5 requirements for a license in Nevada wedding

Articles

If you are going to have a Nevada wedding, you should not let the legal hurdles paused by the marriage license laws take away your joy on your most important day. There are several things that you need to know and have before applying for a Nevada marriage certificate. It is good for you to get the legal hurdles out of your way at least a month before your wedding date.
It is important to note that requirements may vary as each county or city has their own requirements. For instance, the Las Vegas marriage license requirements are slightly different from those in Carson City and Boulder City. However, there are many requirements that are similar across all the cities and counties. Below are some of such requirements.

Identification requirements
The acceptable documents that will prove your identity in Nevada include an original and certified birth certificate, a valid passport, a driver’s license, a resident alien card or a military identification card. If you posses a foreign birth certificate, you will have to get it translated into English and notarized. You will also be required to produce your social security number. However, you do not have to be a resident in Nevada so as to be allowed a license for your wedding.

Requirements for previous weddings
You must have finalized your divorce if you were previously married so as to be allowed a marriage license. You will need to state the exact date and place where the divorce took place. If you are seeking to renew you’re your marriage, you may not be allowed a license because the county clerks are prohibited from issuing new marriage licenses to couples who are currently married. However, you may succeed in renewing your Nevada wedding at a wedding chapel or at a church. In this case, you will be required to produce your marriage certificate to serve as proof of prior marriage before the renewal ceremony is performed.

Age requirements
You may not be able to get a wedding license in Nevada if you have not attained the age of 18. However, the marriage law allows you to get the license at the age of 16 or 17 if one parent or legal guardian is present and approves your wedding. You will also manage to get the license if you have a notarized written approvals form any of your parents or guardians. Such an approval must be written in English and should state the age and names of the minors getting married. For people under the age of 16, a wedding license will only be given through the direction of the court when requested by either a parent or a legal guardian.

Time limits for Las Vegas weddings
The law in Las Vegas prohibits weddings and the issuance of wedding licenses after midnight. This is because of year 2006 directive that Las Vegas marriage bureaus be open only from 8 am to midnight. However, you can still have your Nevada wedding after midnight at a chapel. All you need to do is get your hand on the license before it strikes midnight.
